Our Roots Are Wide And Deep

Psychodrama is a humanistic and action-oriented method of group psychotherapy, while sociometry explores networks of connection.  They are interwoven methods that evoke and encourage spontaneity and creativity in the many roles of our lives.

Psychodrama And Sociometry In The 21st Century

Judy Swallow, MA, TEP, CRS, LCAT

discovered psychodrama in 1975, and it changed her life. It afforded her a safe container to express herself fully, as well as providing the perspective afforded by role reversal and doubling, altering the wounds of the past, and future projection. The body/mind oriented method introduced by Jacob Levy and Zerka Moreno was prescient about the findings of neuroscience today.

Judy has become a trainer, educator and practitioner of psychodrama, sociometry, and group therapy, and is a co-director of the Hudson Valley Psychodrama Institute in Highland, NY. She is also a Rubenfeld Synergy ® practitioner and teacher, and has had many years of training in Psychodramatic Bodywork ® and Rhythmic Integration ®.

She is delighted to see people integrating these action methods into their work. She remembers Moreno’s seminal thinking as she sees how role playing (‘putting yourself in someone’s shoes’) and social media have become part of the way people today explore and navigate their worlds.
